Realizing a goal he had since his first year at Allegheny College, senior Brett Heckert will continue his studies and athletic career at the University of Pittsburgh. Heckert has committed to pursuing a Master of Business Administration at the nationally ranked Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business. As a graduate student, he will be playing baseball in the NCAA Division I Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) with two years of NCAA eligibility remaining.

Heckert was initially drawn to Allegheny College because it gave him the opportunity to play baseball right away and develop his leadership skills.

“Allegheny has given me the ability to grow both as a student and athlete,” says Heckert. “Being at a smaller school forced me to take on more responsibility than I previously was used to, both in the classroom and on the field.”

In May 2022, Heckert will graduate from Allegheny with honors, earning a bachelor’s degree in economics with a minor in communication. He continues to demonstrate academic excellence, as he was inducted into two honor societies: The International Honor Society of Economics, Omicron Delta Epsilon, and the National College Athlete Honor Society, Chi Alpha Sigma.

While at Allegheny, Heckert extensively researched the stock market. Heckert’s Senior Comprehensive Project examined calendar anomalies in the New York Stock Exchange from 2000 to 2019. The project focused on January, turn-of-the-month, and day-of-the-week effects.

Allegheny Head Baseball Coach Brandon Crum applauds Heckert’s outstanding character.

“His commitment, discipline, and competitiveness have been an example for those around him. That’s why he’s a team captain Brett’s intrinsic motivation is unmatched in my time as a coach,” Crum says. “Brett has been a cornerstone in our program. I credit his high expectations for much of the success our team has experienced during his four years.”
