Learning Through Research
As a student at Allegheny College, you’ll have the chance to become part of our rich tradition of undergraduate research that stretches the boundaries of understanding.
Encouraging Inquiry at Allegheny
The nature of senior projects is wildly different across the disciplines, but as a process all of them involve something rare in this world: independent inquiry. The same can apply, beautifully, to collaborative student/faculty summer research. It is a kind of invitation to students our country’s educational systems almost never give: Dear student, find a subject, an issue, a problem that intrigues or bothers you, dig into it, and say something about it that’s both credible and new. The floor is yours. In fact, defining what the floor is may be yours as well.
See how the URSCA office plans and supports year-round programming and learn how to get involved in student-faculty collaborative work.
As an undergraduate, you are able to obtain research positions on faculty-led projects and work with leading scholars in their fields.

Gator Stories
I’ve learned that success isn’t about reaching an end goal — it’s about progress. It doesn’t have to be big achievements or perfect scores, but it is about working hard. It means trying a second time, third time, or more. Everyone truly wants to help you become the best you can be, and that isn’t something that happens on the first shot.
Success is collaborative! Working together and asking questions is so important to the learning environment here at Allegheny. Being able to learn from and share information with peers and professors helps students grow beyond anything learned in a textbook. Your success isn’t defined by your grades. It encompasses all the skills, knowledge, and connections you obtain during your time at Allegheny, and, of course, how you contribute to the campus community, too!
