Allegheny College Director of Athletics and Recreation Bill Ross announced Thursday the hiring of veteran coach Troy Lubanski as the Gators’ new head men’s and women’s swimming and diving coach.
Lubanski brings a wealth of coaching experience across all levels of competitive swimming, from youth and club teams to NCAA and NAIA collegiate programs. A native of Western New York, he has earned a strong reputation throughout the Buffalo and Niagara region for his leadership, work ethic, and commitment to athlete development.
“Troy brings a tremendous level of energy and passion to our swimming and diving programs,” Ross said. “We’re confident he’ll help build a culture of excellence and growth for our student-athletes, and guide our teams to succeed both in the pool and on campus.”

Over the past six years, Lubanski served as both the aquatics coordinator for the University at Buffalo and as the head assistant coach for the Buffalo Area Aquatic Club (BAAC). As aquatics coordinator at UB, he oversaw facility management for various NCAA, USA Swimming, and U.S. Masters Swimming events at Buffalo’s Alumni Arena Natatorium and taught recreation and lifeguarding courses. Lubanski also spent two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach with the Division I women’s swimming and diving program at UB and was part of the team’s first-ever Mid-American Conference championship in the spring of 2021.
For his effort as the lead assistant for BAAC, Lubanski was one of 25 coaches recognized by Project Play Western New York on its 2024 Coaches Honor Roll, an award presented to those who demonstrate the qualities of a great youth sports coach, focusing on youth development, promoting sportsmanship, and demonstrating leadership and integrity.
A former Division III student-athlete at SUNY Fredonia, Lubanski began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant coach with the Blue Devils. He then spent a semester in the spring of 2018 as an assistant at West Virginia University Institute of Technology, an NAIA program in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). Lubanski helped the men’s swimming and diving team at WVU Tech capture its second consecutive AAC title and place seventh at the NAIA national championships.
Lubanski was a four-year member of Fredonia’s men’s swimming team and served as captain during his junior and senior seasons. He holds the program record in the 100-meter individual medley and is part of both record-setting 200- and 400-meter medley relay teams. In January, Lubanski was inducted into York Central School’s Collegiate Hall of Fame for his outstanding performance at Fredonia.
A December 2017 graduate of SUNY Fredonia, Lubanski earned a bachelor of science in sport management and holds certifications from USA Swimming and the American Swimming Coaches Association.
