Recent graduate Carter Hassenplug ’25 (North East, Pa./North East) joined rare company on Wednesday afternoon as only the second Allegheny College men’s golf student-athlete to earn College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America honors.

Hassenplug, Allegheny’s 2024-25 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Male Athlete of the Year and the College’s Male Senior Achievement Award winner, was included on the CSC’s 2025 Academic All-America At-Large Second Team.

He joins Jimmy Lasher ’16, who was named to the All-America Third Team as a senior, as the only two Gator men’s golfers to earn the prestigious award.

On the links, Hassenplug concluded his career this spring as one of the most decorated golfers in team history. A three-time individual medalist at the PAC Championships, he guided the men’s golf team to its second consecutive conference title and NCAA Championships appearance.

Hassenplug carded an even 284 across 72 holes and held a 13-stroke lead over teammate and PAC runner-up Zachary Melzar (Sterling, Mass./Wachusett Regional). He earned PAC Player of the Year and PING All-Region accolades for a third year in a row while setting a team record for the lowest scoring average at 71.7.

A mathematics major with a minor in economics, Hassenplug graduated summa cum laude with a 3.95 cumulative GPA. He was a four-time Distinguished Alden Scholar, a member of Pi Mu Epsilon (Honorary National Mathematics Society), and Omicron Delta Epsilon (International Honor Society for Economics).

Hassenplug also received the Frederick H. Steen Prize for Excellence in Mathematics and was Allegheny’s male representative for the PAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.

Hassenplug was one of 46 student-athletes and the only one from a PAC institution included on the 2025 Academic All-America Men’s At-Large Teams, which encompass the following sports: fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, volleyball, water polo, and wrestling.
