Rutendo Mavunga ’24 is dedicated to guiding financial institutions through business transformation processes and improving customer outcomes at Ernst & Young. She says the foundation she received at Allegheny College empowered her to adopt a broad and diverse skill set that helped her navigate a fast-changing industry.

“Allegheny College taught and encouraged me to always find a way to think outside the box and step outside of my silo of knowledge, which is something that will catapult me as I grow in my profession,” says Mavunga. “Allegheny gave me all the resources I needed to curate the path I wanted for myself with their guidance.”

As a student, Mavunga took every opportunity to get involved on campus as a resident advisor, a leader of the Allegheny College Model United Nations chapter, a global citizen scholar, and a Center for Business and Economics fellow.

After graduating with her bachelor’s degree in economics with a French minor, Mavunga works with financial institutions to support them in analyzing their current operations in digital transformation, risk management, regulatory compliance, and customer experience as a financial services business consultant.

Pursuing both economics and French in college offered a unique skill set that greatly enhanced my professional life,” she says. “Together, these majors provided me with the tools to succeed in a global and dynamic career path.

Mavunga notes that securing internships with the help of the Center for Career and Professional Development her student internships at Ernst & Young, Deloitte & Touché, JP Morgan, Global Business Alliance helped narrow down her interests. She credits the following professors and staff for their support at Allegheny College:

  • Beth Ryan, Program Coordinator for the Center for Business and Economics
  • Ishita Sinha Roy, Professor of Media & Cultural Studies
  • Lenée McCandless, Assistant Dean of International Student Services
  • Melissa Mencotti, Director of Gift Planning
  • Russell Ormiston, Professor of Economics
  • Stephen Onyeiwu, Professor of Economics

Mavunga invites current students to connect with fellow alumni, including herself, along their journey, and says, “You’re not just preparing for a career; you’re preparing to have an impact. Every concept you learn, every theory you grasp, gives you a clearer lens through which to view the world. And with that perspective, you have the power to solve problems, to bring about change, and to make a difference in ways that matter.”
