Allegheny College will celebrate the achievements of 250 graduating seniors at its 2026 commencement ceremony this Saturday, May 9, at 12:30 p.m.
The ceremony marks 211 years of academic excellence at the nationally ranked institution. Dr. Celia Cook-Huffman, who was appointed provost and dean of the faculty in December, will aid President Dr. Ron Cole ’87, in the conferment of degrees.

“This moment — when we pause to reflect and celebrate — is one of the best moments of the year,” Cook-Huffman said. “Graduation marks the completion of one leg of the student’s journey and the beginning of the next. It is hard work and persistence that bring our students here; it is the connections, relationships and experience built during their time at Allegheny that will guide them into the future.”

Conservationist Dr. Margaret D. Lowman, known as “Canopy Meg,” will give the commencement address. The researcher, author and public speaker is widely recognized for her groundbreaking research on forest canopies and her efforts to promote global sustainability and biodiversity.

Lowman will also receive an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters at the ceremony. Dr. Margaret Nelson, professor of biology, nominated Lowman for the honor, and will present the degree.

“Dr. Lowman brings a remarkable sense of energy and curiosity to her work,” Nelson said earlier this year. “She is an engaging presenter whose groundbreaking research has transformed how scientists understand forest ecosystems. Just as importantly, she has devoted her career to connecting people, especially young people, with nature and encouraging women to pursue careers in science.”

Also participating in the ceremony are:

  • Julie Skattum ’85, chair of the board of trustees
  • Dr. Adrienne Krone, secretary of the faculty and professor of environmental science and sustainability
  • Chezka Quinola ’27, Allegheny Student Government president
  • Yvonne Longstreth, a retiring employee of nearly 45 years for dining services provider, Parkhurst
