If you’ve spent any time in Oakmont, Pa. lately, chances are you’ve heard the buzz. There’s a new hangout on Allegheny Avenue that’s serving lagers, stouts, and stories in equal measure.
Precious Taylor-Forde ’22 says that as a first-generation student, Allegheny College’s interdisciplinary studies helped uncover her passion for public health— little did she know that it would lead her to Yale University.
Kristen Lauth Shaeffer ’03 says that she left Allegheny College confident after graduating as a first-generation student, knowing she wasn’t trained in one thing. Little did she know that her path in life would connect her with a notable filmmaker and that she would rise to become the head of an academic department at Chatham University.
The project to build bat boxes is funded by the National Wildlife Federation Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom Grant. Its primary mission is to lure bats away from undesirable locations and to more desirable locations to enhance the population.
When Jude Shingle ’08 steps into a room, he isn’t looking for the spotlight, he’s looking for possibility. That mindset, shaped in classrooms and community projects during his Allegheny College days, has carried him through a career of creating spaces where people can learn, experiment, and grow.
In a sea of students, Sterling Levine ’27 didn’t want to feel like a statistic. As a transfer student studying psychology with an art, science, and innovation minor, Levine says that it was the faculty connections that first made an impression on them.
The official ribbon cutting for Allegheny’s new Center for Research and Teaching Excellence (CREATE) was celebrated with faculty, trustees, students and staff on Thursday, Oct. 16. CREATE lab is a new state-of-the-art presentation and research space designed to facilitate connections between faculty, librarians, and students.
