Alumni Tour of Kenya
Virtual Information Sessions
Curious about this once-in-a-lifetime, uniquely Allegheny travel opportunity? Join Professors Ishita Sinha Roy and Lauren French Stout for one of our upcoming Zoom information sessions to learn more. Attendees will receive first access to the registration form for this very limited tour. We anticipate the tour will fill quickly, so we encourage all interested alumni to attend one of these virtual sessions.
If capacity remains after the information sessions, a registration link will be added here. Reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis until all spaces are filled. If the tour reaches capacity, interested alumni may add their names to a waiting list, no deposit required.
Please note: single occupancy is not available for this tour.
Faculty Leaders
Dr. Ishita Sinha Roy, Professor of Media and Cultural Studies
Dr. Ishita Sinha Roy has taught at Allegheny College for 25 years. She is also an affiliate faculty for the Public Humanities program. Ishita has been a recipient of multiple teaching awards at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, and at Allegheny College. Her research focuses on global media, visual representation and identity, brand storytelling, and nation-branding. Dr. Sinha Roy has been the college’s Faculty Global Studies liaison, and co-directed a Mellon Grant for internationalizing the campus. Since 2006, Ishita has co-facilitated multiple Global Learning Seminars for Allegheny students, with a primary focus on non-western emerging economies, such as South Africa, Kenya, Japan, Sri Lanka, countries in South-East Asia, and different regions of India. Most recently, in 2026, she co-facilitated a very well-received Allegheny alumni tour across northwest India. Dr. Sinha Roy hopes this uniquely designed tour to Kenya will be a special journey of discovery that reminds us of our place in the world, offers a different experience of globalization, and reminds us that Allegheny College will always be “home.”
Dr. Lauren French Stout, Professor of Neuroscience and Biology
Dr. Lauren French Stout has just celebrated 25 years of teaching. Her research addresses what makes individual neurons unique from one another, how they “talk” to each other to transmit information in the nervous system, and how drugs and toxins affect their function. She and a colleague are using an NSF grant to mentor a group of undergraduates, from underserved families, who are pursuing a STEM education at Allegheny College. Lauren has traveled extensively across various countries in Europe, Hawaii, Mexico, Japan, Thailand, Burma, and Tanzania. In addition, she co-led a Global Learning Seminar for Allegheny students to the Turks and Caicos Islands and participated in a faculty global learning excursion to Israel. She looks forward to this tour as a living experiment to see how different participants fire up, like neurons, when provided new and exciting stimuli, and how they communicate and forge new connections with one another.
