Northwest Pennsylvania is a nature lover’s paradise. From the trails and lakes to the nearby beaches and mountains, you can find any and everything you’re looking for.
Outing Club
The Allegheny Outing Club is run by students, for students. The whole idea of the club is for students with outdoor skills and experience to share their knowledge and love of nature with others, giving their peers a chance to get out into the wild and out of their comfort zones. We also aim to get students off campus in general, exposing them to new adventures. We promise to provide a safe, healthy, friendly, and exciting experience for you every time you come aboard. We look forward to getting outside with you!
Recreation and Fitness
Allegheny staff members organize outings for anyone to enjoy. These accessible, local events have included hiking, ice skating, kayaking, badmitton, pickleball, and more. In addition, fitness offerings include interval training, strength training, yoga, and spin classes.
Resources for Outing Adventures
Most trails in our area are gentle and scenic — perfect for the novice hiker. Even so, a little preparation will ensure your hike is safe and enjoyable.
- Footwear: Tennis shoes are appropriate for many local trails, but wet weather (even days before) can turn the best trail into a muddy mess. When in doubt, choose the sturdier option.
- Sun/Insect Protection: Protect your skin from sun with light layers, sunscreen and a hat. Protect yourself from insects with mosquito and tick repellant and check yourself for hitchhiking ticks after your hike.
- Food/Water: It’s always wise to carry some water and a snack.
- Don’t go it alone! Hike with a friend, or let someone know when and where you’re going.
