Awards
Special awards have been created to recognize members of the Allegheny community annually for their significant accomplishments, and we value your suggestions of deserving individuals at any time. The award descriptions are listed below.
To Submit a Nomination
There are three ways to submit a nomination:
- Click on the “Nomination Form” link located beneath each award description to submit a nomination online.
- Email your nomination to alumni@allegheny.edu.
- Send a letter via the U.S. Postal Service to Phil Foxman, Associate Vice President of Development and Director of Alumni Affairs, 520 North Main Street, Allegheny College, Meadville, PA 16335.

Alumni Awards
Alumni Medal
The College’s oldest and most prestigious recognition, awarded for steadfast loyalty and many years of distinguished service to Allegheny.
Blue Citation
Awarded to an Allegheny graduate in recognition and appreciation of outstanding service to the College.
Gold Citation
Awarded to an Allegheny graduate in recognition and appreciation of honor reflected upon the College by virtue of professional or volunteer activities.
Young Alumni Award
Awarded to an Allegheny graduate from the past 15 years who embodies the values espoused by Allegheny College. Through exceptional professional accomplishment, significant contributions to their community, and/or dedicated service to Allegheny, the recipient reflects honor upon the College and serves as an inspiration to current students, alumni, and future generations of Gators.
Teaching Awards
Julian Ross Award for Excellence in Teaching
Presented to a faculty member who has been at Allegheny College for more than 10 years. Before submitting your nomination, pleaser eview the list of eligible professors.
Thoburn Award for Excellence in Teaching
Presented to a faculty member who has been at Allegheny College for 10 years or less. Before submitting your nomination, please review the list of eligible professors.
Employee Awards
Robert T. Sherman Distinguished Service Award
Given to an Allegheny staff member (see above for faculty award nomination categories) who has provided exceptional long-term support to College programs or activities and/or contributed to the College in areas not required by their job description. The recipient’s performance should exceed expectation, and they should embody excellence, service and dedication to Allegheny. The recipient must be a current or retired non-teaching employee (having completed a minimum of five years of service).
Athletics
Athletic Hall of Fame
Athletic Hall of Fame Nominees may include athletes, teams, coaches, trainers, or any other people who have made outstanding contributions to varsity athletics at Allegheny. The nomination information should include the sport(s) played; collegiate accomplishments; and special contribution to the College, its athletic program or the community. An individual, team, or coach may be nominated anytime beginning 10 years after graduation.
