Study Away Cost and Financial Aid

When you study on a sponsored study away program during the fall or spring terms, you are able to utilize your entire Allegheny and Federal/State financial aid package with the exception of work study awards and Tuition Exchange scholarships. All sponsored program participants pay regular Allegheny tuition to Allegheny College. Most sponsored programs include room and board and if that’s the case, students will be charged Allegheny room and board rates which vary by program. In other sponsored programs, students may pay for room and board directly to the host institution instead of to Allegheny. All sponsored Programs also include a $800 off-campus study fee. In addition you must factor in the cost of meals, airfare, immigration expenses, and personal expenses.

If you study on an independent program instead of a sponsored program, you won’t pay Allegheny tuition or housing. Instead you’ll pay Allegheny an $1,200 off-campus study fee and you will pay all other fees directly to your program provider. On independent programs, students do not pay Allegheny tuition or housing and students cannot utilize Allegheny’s institutional scholarships, although certain federal and state aid may transfer.

Global Learning Seminars are 2–3 week courses students take in the summer. Students pay summer tuition to Allegheny on a per-credit basis for either 2 or 4 credits, depending on the seminar. There is a $1,200 reservation fee to confirm a space. Airfare, ground transport, housing, meals, travel insurance, entrance fees and tours are included. Some internal grants are available. Some institutional & federal aid
available, some private loans possible.
