Signature Events
Allegheny traditions are all about fun and unforgettable experiences. From high-energy homecoming celebrations to quirky campus rituals, these events create memories, strengthen friendships, and give every student a true sense of belonging. Taking part in a tradition or reveling in Gator spirit, our campus is always buzzing.
Blue and Gold Weekend
Blue & Gold Weekend is a combination of a homecoming and parent weekend, and it brings out our Gator pride! Blue & Gold Weekend festivities include alumni panels, career prep events, athletic contests, the “Tailgator” luncheon, merch and spirit items, and so much more!
Involvement Fairs
These fairs are held at the beginning of each semester and showcases our over 100 clubs and organizations. The fair provides a lively setting for clubs and organizations to raise awareness about their events, recruit new members, and network with others.
Run Out
Each fraternity and sorority introduces its new members to the campus community at Run-Out at the beginning of fall and spring semester. New members “run out” of Brooks Hall into Brooks Circle, where they are joined by their brothers and/or sisters in a spirited serenade.
Make a Difference Day, Service Saturdays
Make a Difference Day (MADD) generally occurs in October. Hundreds of Allegheny students work alongside a number of community members to complete projects in the local area. Projects range from raking leaves to painting houses to building wheelchair ramps, wherever work is needed.
Competition of the Muses (formerly Greek Sing)
Each fraternity and sorority performs for seven to ten minutes to choreographed songs, singing, lip-syncing, or performing short acts. This even is family friendly and attended by community members across campus.
GAP Major Concert
Every other year, Gator Activities Programming (GAP) hosts a major concert. The student body is surveyed about the event, and then GAP does the work. Recent performers were Flo Milli, NLE Choppa, Bryce Vine, and Foreign Air.
Springfest
April’s Springfest weekend is organized each year to include a variety of activities for students to relax and unwind. With a student-chosen theme, events include entertainment, games, food and swag. All clubs and organizations are encouraged to host activities.
Allegheny first held a spring festival in 1929, when the weekend’s activities centered on the selection of a May Queen and her court.
Trashion Show
The annual Trashion Show is open to anyone who wants to design and/or model a fashion made from trash or recycled materials. This popular event reinforces Allegheny’s commitment to sustainability while showcasing the creativity of our students. Fashions in past shows have included a stunning dress made from a black garbage bag and red Solo cups—and an outfit crafted from banana peels.
Senior Week and the “Burning of the Comps”
Senior Week occurs during the days between finals and commencement. Events change each year but typically include a local foods dinner, events in downtown Meadville, a formal dinner with a champagne toast and dancing, and the “Burning of the Comps,” a College tradition dating back at least to the late 1800s. The Comp burning celebrates the conclusion of the seniors’ academic work, including the required “Senior Comp.” Digital copies are kept, of course!
