Project

Mural with Northwest Pennsylvania Investment Co-operative

Description

The NWPIC reached out to Allegheny College in hopes of collaborating with a locally-based artist to create a mural on the side of the first building that the co-operative purchased. In the summer of 2023, Allegheny students completed research under Professor Burleigh. They researched public art and placemaking best practices, and evaluated public art programs in other cities. They made a presentation which was reviewed and selected by the NWPIC. Doug has collaborated with the student assistants to translate the digital design for the mural into a physical woodblock, and that design has been printed in several sections on polytab. The mural is thus ready to be installed on the NWPIC-owned building at 847 Market Street in Meadville in April, once weather conditions are more favorable to sustained outdoor work.
