Project

Developing Framework for Green Space Along Meadville’s Future Multipurpose Trail

Description

The project aimed to create the framework surrounding development of the green space along Meadville’s future multipurpose trail. This project included collaborations among Allegheny College’s Dr. Casey Bradshaw-Wilson’s Junior Seminar: ES 585, the Crawford County Planning Director, Zach Norwood, and PennDOT. The trail will start at the intersection of Reynolds Avenue and US Route 19 in the northbound lane, and end at the intersection of US 19 and Baldwin Street. The two Northbound lanes are being converted to the trail, while the two Southbound lanes will become a two-lane road. PennDOT will be breaking ground on the new trail in summer 2024.

Outcome

PennDOT, the Meadville City Planning Office, and Dr. Bradshaw-Wilson’s class worked together to identify a sustainable land use plan and believe that a pollinator path is a perfect way to reduce maintenance costs, make the trail aesthetically pleasing, and create a safe and appropriate environment for native pollinators.
