Project

Book Arts Exhibition at the Meadville Public Library

Description

ART 545 students organized the exhibition, "Unbound: What's Your Story," and related educational programming featuring contemporary book arts.

ART 545 students organized the exhibition, “Unbound: What’s Your Story,” and related educational programming featuring contemporary book arts. The public exhibition was on view for six weeks in spring/summer 2023. Copies of the show catalog were also made available for further dissemination of project outcomes. ART 584 is a course that draws upon both exhibition history and curatorial studies, in which students learn about curatorial work as a strategy of activism and community engagement. Students met with representatives from the public library early in the course, and the capstone project was an exhibition where students interviewed potential artists, devised an exhibition theme, made artwork selections, coordinated artwork installations and crafted educational materials, such as wall texts and gallery pamphlets for the library’s newly remodeled gallery space.  Approximately 75 people attended the exhibition.

Outcome

Students organized an exhibition and related educational programming titled "Unbound: What's Your Story" that remained on view for six weeks during the spring/summer 2023.
