Six Allegheny Football Players Receive NFF Hampshire Honor Society Award

Jul 8, 2008

Six Allegheny football players have been selected to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society. The 2008 Gator honorees included senior defensive backs Curt Anderson, Jon Buggey and Nick Jones, along with linebackers Ross Simcoe and Mateo Villa and kicker Josh Whiteside.

The award is given to seniors who have maintained a 3.2 GPA throughout their careers and played a significant role as a starter or key substitute on their respective team.

The players were part of a stingy Allegheny defense that ended the season ranked second in the North Coast Athletic Conference in scoring defense, holding opponents to just 15.0 points per game.

Villa finished the 2008 campaign as the Gators’ tackles leader with 100 stops, followed by Simcoe’s 91 hits. Jones led the team in interceptions (5) while recording 43 stops. Anderson recorded two picks while posting 67 tackles and Buggey added 40 tackles. Whiteside tied for the team lead in scoring at 30 points, connecting on 12-of-14 PAT kicks and 6-of-13 field goals.
