As part of the initiative to better preserve and celebrate Allegheny's heritage, President Richard Cook named Jonathan Helmreich as college historian. In 2005 Dr. Helmreich published a complete history of the College entitled Through All the Years: A History of Allegheny College. The generosity of Dr. Wayne and Sally Merrick and their family has made possible the addition of a full-time archivist, as well as renovated space in the library known as the Wayne and Sally Merrick Historic Archival Center. The Archival Center collects, preserves and makes available for research historical records of enduring value to the institution. Materials preserved include correspondence, minutes, student and college publications, biographical information on alumni, administration, faculty and staff; some student theses and memorabilia; and photographs that document students, activities and physical changes on campus.

Alumni and friends of the college interested in submitting material and recollections to the Committee on History and Heritage are encouraged to contact either Jonathan Helmreich at Box 68, or Ruth Ash at Box 117, Allegheny College, 520 North Main St., Meadville, PA 16335.
